Cover by Stephen Mooney (line art) and Tamra Bonvillain (colour art).Tommy ‘Irish’ Flynn returns on latest adventure in Half Past Danger 2: Dead to Reichs, which picks up from where (New York Times bestseller) Half Past Danger left off. Agent Moss is in the wind with the research the Nazis had on a chemical weapon based on living dinosaur DNA. Flynn and Captain Noble are moving through Europe following leads in an attempt to recover the stolen research. All of this is set against the backdrop of World War 2.
In three panels, the reader is back in the world of Flynn who once again is trying to survive this latest encounter with the Nazis. It’s wise-cracking, action-packed war story that we all enjoyed from the first series. The dynamic between Flynn and Noble is just as we remember it with Noble being the super-soldier “straight man” to Flynn’s gung-ho wise-cracking ways. The art has a great impact with the action sequences (particularly the first appearance of Noble in the comic). Equally the art team (Mooney and Farrell) create some good looking pages for the dance party.
The comic is a good opener for Half Past Danger 2. The reader is quickly reacquainted with the cast and it’s straight into the action. It sets up things for this story arc nicely with some surprises thrown in to shake things up for the team. It’s a testament to Mooney to have created this world that seems so familiar and is such fun to read.
I’m a big fan of Half Past Danger and really looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
