It looks like the newly started blog is giving me energy to be somewhat regular with the posts. Here’s hoping it last for a few months at least.
The amount of articles/blog posts that have appeared giving advice regarding writing as a career, which only added fuel to the fire. I’m not talking about the rose-tinted writings about the life of a writer. These were ones that gave an honest and realistic view of it.
Among the advice, was that a writer must put in a lot of time and effort to develop the craft. You won’t sit down at a desk one evening and just fire out a perfect piece of writing. You’ll trip, stumble and even fall now and again, but you must persevere if you want to get better at it.
Read books outside of the categories that you usually buy, for myself an example would be to read crime novels. It makes sense, it would probably help avoid writing in a style that isn’t appropriate to the story you’re trying to tell. So it’s my good fortune that I’ve just received some books in a genre that I usually read.
That’s why I’ve a bit of a bounce in my blogging step. On a side note, I’ve set myself a challenge to write a short story this month. I have a seed of an idea for the story, so I’m excited to see how the writing goes in the next few weeks.
